Bridge Creek Backcountry Kitchen & Wine Bar, Red Lodge, MT

We chanced upon the Bridge Creek Backcountry Kitchen & Wine Bar in 2008 on a motorcycle road trip to the BMW National Owners’ Rally in Gillette, Wy.

The Bridge Creek restaurant has a relaxed, friendly atmosphere with a definite upscale feel.  Red Lodge is a small resort town and like many small communities that cater to tourists, a snooty, formal, high brow restaurant simply doesn’t make the cut.

Four years ago, our group of ten adults invaded the restaurant, and many of us ordered one of the restaurant’s signature dishes, the Flat Iron Steak, garnished with a mild blue cheese sauce. One of our party, Alan, a visitor from the U.K. who has tendencies more toward the carnivorous rather than vegan side of the spectrum, said it was the best piece of meat he’d ever had.

That’s a hard act to follow. When we dined there recently (in mid-July), Alan had a chance to try the dish again to see if it lived up to his previous outstanding dining experience. Sure enough, the Bridge Creek chef(s) came through with flying colours and he declared the Flat Iron Steak to be every bit as tender and delicious as he remembered it four years ago. Others in the party who ordered that steak echoed Alan’s high praise.

The Bridge Creek restaurant is a destination eatery for foodies, and highly recommended.
