Hope Drive-in & Restaurant, Hope, BC

I’ve been stopping at the Hope Drive-in & Restaurant for years now.  We discovered this eatery on one of our first motorcycle expeditions when my hair was still black and I possessed a frame that could be described as ‘trim.’

Hope is the first major stop for fuel and refreshment after Kamloops  if you’re riding (or driving, as was the case on this trip) from Alberta and using BC’s ‘super route’, the Coquihalla Hwy 5.  It’s divided, fast and steep.

I wheel the old Mercedes off the highway onto the first exit to Hope without consulting Ingrid.

“Interested in pie?”, I ask, coyly.

“Yup”, comes the reply I was expecting.  Decades of marriage trains a man to know what pushes his wife’s hot buttons.

We walk into the clean, modest restaurant, and it feels like a traditional roadside diner.  A tall, glass case displays the numerous pies available and we stand there, intently studying them like tourists gawking at exotic wildlife.

I ordered the lemon meringue pie and Ingrid had a fruit cobbler a la mode.  It doesn’t matter what pie you order.  They’re all great, and the Hope Drive In & Restaurant is a ‘must do’ eatery, especially for their pies.  Highly recommended.
