Spinnakers heritage guest house, built in 1884

Nothing is better for a tourist than a recommendation from locals.  Our friends Bob and Lauretta have owned a condo in Victoria for many years, and when they heard Ingrid and I were on a driving holiday there, they recommended Spinnakers.

Located at water side, Spinnakers is a well known brewhouse, pub and restaurant.  Near the main establishment are three houses available with rooms to rent, one of which is a heritage home built in 1884.

The restored heritage house is two houses away from Spinnakers restaurant, and charming with four rooms on the main floor and two rooms on the second floor.  Our room was compact, with a modern ensuite bath (toilet and shower stall) and a sink in bedroom.  A gas fireplace and small flatscreen tv provided the only other ‘necessities’ of modern, civilized travel.

The room rate was $129 per day, and a bargain because a fabulous breakfast (for 2) at Spinnakers excellent restaurant is included.

Spinnakers restaurant has earned a reputation for being a top notch eatery in Victoria.  I’ll post a separate review of the restaurant shortly.  But know that I ordered off the breakfast menu  Wild Pacific Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict on home made scones, and Spinnakers smokes says they smoke their own salmon.  I’m a huge eggs ‘benny’ fan, and it was so good, I ordered it two days running.

The heritage house has free on-site parking for four vehicles.

Spinnakers Brewpub & Guest Houses, 308 Catherine Street, Victoria, BC.  Tel.:  1-877-838-2739.  Highly recommended.
