Moto Guzzi Stelvio 1200 NTX fuel economy – Part 2

This final installment of our Stelvio 1200 NTX fuel economy report covers 1200 kilometres the bike was ridden in the United States and Canada.

I recorded the fuel economy of my 2012 Moto Guzzi Stelvio 1200 NTX last during a 5-day road trip on the Victoria Day long weekend.

Here’s the second installment, with figures calculated from litres of fuel used and distance ridden (according the the Stelvio’s onboard trip meter.)  I never rely on the Guzzi’s onboard fuel consumption readout – it, like the majority of car and motorcycle fuel consumption displays, is optimistic.  Factory fuel consumption readouts typically tell you the vehicle is achieving better fuel efficiency than it really is.

The hard numbers

  • To Missoula, Mt: 285 km traveled; 4.6 U.S. gallons/17.5 L used; 6.1 L/100 km, 46.3 miles per Imperial gallon, 38.5 miles per U.S. gallon
  • Missoula, MT to Libby, Mt:  305 km traveled, 5.0 U.S. gallons/19.0 L used; 6.2 L/100 km, 45.5 miles per Imperial gallon, 37.9 miles per U.S. gallon
  • Libby, MT to Crowsnest Pass, AB:  252 km traveled, 16.6 L used; 6.6 L/100 km, 42.8 miles per Imperial gallon, 35.6 miles per U.S. gallon
  • Crowsnest Pass to Red Deer, AB:  358 km traveled, 20.5 L used; 5.7 L/100 km, 49.5 miles per Imperial gallon, 41.2 miles per U.S. gallon

Total distance traveled for the above-described segments:  1200 km

Total fuel:  73.6 L (premium unleaded)

Average fuel consumption:  6.1 L/100 km, 46.3 miles per Imperial gallon, 38.5 miles per U.S. gallon
