Rattlesnake Pass between Asotin, WA and Enterprise, OR. Not a Canadian drive, but a superb sportscar/motorcycle road nonetheless
Here is Postmedia News writer Paul Choi’s recommendations for the best Canadian drives is the classic list.
His picks?
- The Cabot Trail, NS
- Sea-to-Sky Highway, BC
- Icefields Parkway, AB
- Confederation Bridge, NB to PEI
- Yonge Street, Toronto
With the exception of Yonge Street (known as the longest street in the world, according to the Guiness Book of Records), Recommendations Nos. 1-4 are pretty standard. Yonge Street is a somewhat controversial choice; it’s certainly not scenic as the other drives are.

From Western Canada, I would add:
- The Cowboy Trail, Alberta Hwy 22 which parallels the Rockies and heads south through southern Alberta’s picturesque cattle country
- BC’s Hwy 3A along Kootenay Lake from Creston to the Crawford Bay (free) ferry
- BC’s Hwy 6 running from Vernon to the Needles (free) ferry
- BC’s Hwy 99 from ski resort Whistler to Lillooet
While the Cowboy Trail is an easy drive that can be enjoyed behind the wheel of a minivan, the three BC road’s I’ve recommended are best appreciated from behind the wheel of a world class sportscar like a Mazda MX-5 or, if you’ve got the dosh, a Porsche Boxster GTS (both on a sunny, warm, summer day with the top down, of course) or aboard a sharp-handling motorcycle like a 2014 BMW R1200RT. 🙂

done: cabot trail, icefield parkway, hwy 3a, hwy 6, hwy 22 of the list, using either the boxster or the bike. hwy3a/6 are really hard on the inside front tires, and afterwards Loretta said, find a road that has less corners…
I would add New Denver to Kaslo via the Kaslo Pass, hwy31A 🙂
Absolutely. I agree. That section of highway is one of the best motorcycling/sports car roads in Canada, and one of my favourites.
