I tried to determine if I could see any difference between the R1200RT’s OEM H7 halogen low beam bulb and the new PIAA Xtreme White Plus H7 ‘premium’ bulb.

Trying to be as ‘scientific’ as possible, I used the same iPhone 6 for taking the photos and I took the images at the same time of day, about two-and-a-half hours after sunrise.

The ‘before’ image with the OEM H7 bulb was taken in Billings, MT on July 25th; the ‘after’ image with the PIAA Xtreme White Plus H7 was taken this morning in Edmonton, August 12th.

Neither image were edited in any way for exposure, sharpness or colour.

The two photos don’t prove anything.  You can tell that by comparing the RT’s fairing on either side of the headlight that the iPhone exposed the images differently.  The iPhone has exposed the ‘before’ image less than in the ‘after’ image, shown by the RT’s darker colour.  Look at the background in the ‘after’ picture and there is dark foliage, causing the camera to increase its exposure.

So, this ‘experiment’, while interesting, is a total flop.

An expert photographer would have used the same camera, same f-stop/shutter speed/ISO setting.

Nice try, but no cigar.
