In Lisbon, Portugal, all the municipal police motorcycles we saw on road patrol were Honda Deauville NT700Vs.  This is a mid-displacement, 680 cc liquid-cooled V-twin motorcycle never imported to Canada.

That’s a shame.  With shaft-drive and standard equipment hard bags, this is a do-it-all-rounder that takes advantage of its smaller size and lighter weight than the ‘big’ police bikes such as the BMW R1200RT, Yamaha FJR1300 and Honda ST1300 that are also popular ‘authority’ motorcycles.

During our visit to Lisbon, we did see the Lisbon police using BMW R1200RTs and I think I saw a Honda ST1300, both of which were parked at high volume traffic circles with the motor patrol officers standing nearby.

Note in the photo the Lisbon police motor officer has blue running lights turned on.  That seems to be standard practice.  All the police motorcycles we saw on the road in Portugal were running with blue lights on.
