Coffee and Nata at Handy Bakery

Nata (aka Portuguese Tart) from Edmonton’s Handy Bakery

With influence from my brother-in-law, John, who lives in Calgary, I decided to follow his lead – to go out, by myself, for a morning coffee.

I’m test driving a new, 2016 Fiat 500X AWD, so driving the baby CUV through a light blanket of freshly fallen snow was a perfect excuse.

After spending a good few weeks in Central Europe and Portugal, we got used to living in a coffee culture.  In those parts of Europe, its a common social practice to leisurely while away one’s time while sipping good coffee and munching a sweet pastry, all while people watching.

So I strayed from my normal habit of grinding beans and brewing a pot of coffee, and bought my morning brew, ate a Nata and read the local tabloid newspaper at Edmonton’s Handy Bakery, the city’s best source of authentic, Portuguese Nata, which are delicious egg custard tarts.  Superb!
