My life long friend, Calgary resident and motorcyclist, has long recommended I visit the Black Diamond Hotel restaurant.

Black Diamond is a small town in southern Alberta.  The hotel is located at the intersection of the famously scenic Highway 22 (The Cowboy Trail) and Highway 7.

The combined restaurant/pub is a popular stop for southern Alberta motorcyclists.  On any given weekend, there’s a stack of bikes parked on the street.

No surprise.  Black Diamond is strategically placed between two popular riding destinations for Calgary residents – Bragg Creek and Longview.

Inside, the restaurant has a distinct Western theme, but it’s modern and spacious.

I order the steak, bargain priced at $14.95, and it seems like a bargain.  Th meat is good, although cooked closer to ‘medium’ than the medium-rare I asked for.  Robyn orders a beef dip sandwich, and our meals come promptly.

After departing Toad Rock Campground in the B.C. Kootenays at 05:30 h, we’ve skipped lunch.  Riding north at Longview, we encounter very hard rain, and the temperature has dipped to about 12 C.  We’re cold and hungry upon arriving in Black Diamond, so the well priced meal, good surroundings and good food is more than a welcome respite.

We liked the Black Diamond Hotel restaurant/pub a lot and we’ll make a point of returning. Highly recommended.
