‘Biftek Florentine’ is a regional specialty dish famous in Florence, Italy.

It’s a meat-lover’s dream – 1.2 kg of deliciously grilled T-bone steak.

That’s a lot of meat!  Our Biftek Florentine was originally priced at 55 Euros at Il Ristorante Tosca on the second floor of Mercato CentraleFlorence’s market.  The price put us off, and we ordered grilled octopus instead.

We were so thrilled with the grilled octopus, we returned to the same restaurant another day only to find that the Biftek Florentine was the day’s ‘special’ being offered at ‘only’ 40 Euros.  We couldn’t resist.

Macho Italian men (especially the young guys) will boast they can consume the 1.2 kilo slab of meat solo, but we wisely decided to share it between the two of us.

To be honest, our Alberta beef is more tender and flavourful, but this was certainly a ‘remember-that-lunch-in-Florence?’-moment I’ll remember for a long, long time.

The steak came with superb roasted potatoes, perhaps the best I’ve ever had, and a dish of white beans.

Lunch here was one of my favourite memories of Florence.  Burp.
