Most North Americans reel in horror when one mentions eating octopus.

What a bunch of wimps!

With a Chinese background, we grew up eating all sorts of ‘non-mainstream’ seafood, such as squid and octopus.

But the Italians, or more specifically, the Florentines, really know how to cook up a delicious squid dish.

We sampled this grilled octopus at Tosca Restaurant in Florence’s Mercato Centrale, and it was one of our most delicious and memorable meals in Italy

The ocotpus is meaty, tender, and with the slightest bit of rubbery ‘bite’ that I enjoy.

Florence's Mercato Centrale is crowded with tourists. Our advice, go to Tosca Restaurant on the second floor and escape the crowds

The dining experience at Tosca is top notch.  Located on the second level of the market, above the main floor’s hubbub, the second level dining allows a view of the market, and it’s air conditioned to boot.

Highly recommended.
