Edmonton and Northern Alberta BMW and Ducati motorcycle owners can rejoice.  A new, independent BMW and Ducati motorcycle service shop has recently opened in Edmonton.

On May 1st, The Bike Shoppe opened its doors, marking the first independent motorcycle service business specializing in servicing the premium European motorcycle brands, BMW and Ducati.

The new enterprise is a partnership between three friends whose collective experience and technical expertise is impressive.

Twenty-six years’ of motorcycle service experience, BMW and Ducati specialty

The trio at The Motorcycle Shoppe have an impressive 26 years’ of combined motorcycle service experience.

Colin Robinson is the ‘front’ man, with some 9 years of service writing experience acquired at one of Alberta’s largest powersports dealers.  Robinson is the man responsible for writing up work orders and ordering parts and accessories.

The Bike Shoppe’s robust technical and mechanical expertise is provided by two highly experienced technicians.  Mark Statler is a Ducati master technician with 9 years’ experience, and Tyler Janzen is a BMW master technician with 8 years’ experience.

Technology

Just about any new motorcycle is loaded to the gunnels with electronic technology.  Multiple computers, CANBUS electrical systems, electronic fuel injection, Anti-lock Braking Systems, traction control, and ride ‘modes’ that allow control over suspension settings are just a few of the complex systems modern motorcycles are loaded with.

BMW and Ducati are among the brands of motorcycle manufacturers that pride their companies for leading edge technology.  But a long with that comes technology that most buyers love, but they also fear if the technology fails.

Janzen shows me the professional grade TEXA diagnostic tool The Bike Shoppe uses.  “This is essentially the same factory OEM diagnostic tool that manufacturers such as Ducati and Moto Guzzi use at the dealerships”, he explains.  “The only difference is that factory-supplied units come with (non-interchangeable) proprietary connectors specific to that motorcycle brand.)”  The non-factory TEXA units come with interchangeable connectors.

Not just BMW and Ducati

Janzen and Statler aren’t only BMW and Ducati master technicians, they’re experienced in multiple other brands, too.

When I visited the shop, a customer had brought in a newly-acquired 1990s-era Yamaha XTZ 750 Super Tenere for servicing, and Robinson proudly had parked at the front a rare Suzuki ‘DR Big’ he just bought and plans on refurbishing.

Emergency service, 1-844-738-1895 (toll free)

Robinson says The Bike Shoppe is open Monday to Saturday, and has a toll free phone number as a convenience to customers outside the Edmonton metropolitan area and to provide emergency service if they can.

Shop Rate

The Bike Shoppe’s shop rate is a very attractive $99 per hour (+ shop supplies and GST.)

Future Plans

While this new enterprise has only recently opened for business, the three partners are already looking forward to the non-riding season, and plan to offer indoor, heated storage for motorcycles at $99 dollars per month from October to March.
