I’ve been craving a hit of Nata, the creamy Portuguese egg custard tarts that were the cultural and historic inspiration for “Dun tart”, the Chinese custard tarts served at Dim Sum.

What could make a better Portuguese-style breakfast than a couple of Nata and a cup of coffee?

After a vacation in Portugal two years ago, Ingrid and I became Portuguese cuisine fans.  One of the most memorable items we ‘discovered’ were the Nata custard tarts, served at every coffee shop and restaurant.

When we returned to Edmonton, we spent one entire day visiting every Portuguese bakery in Edmonton.  After comparing the various versions of the various bakeries tarts, we decided Handy Bakery had the best, most authentic Portuguese tarts.

Eating one of their Nata instantly transports me back to a most memorable vacation in Lisbon.  It’s sheer pleasure.
