Extreme winter driving highway fuel economy – 2018 Audi A4

2018 Audi A4 fuel consumption (highway) at -23.5 degrees Celsius

We spent Christmas in Calgary and returned to Edmonton in extreme winter driving conditions, -23.5 degrees Celsius.

Our 2018 Audi A4 2.0-litre turbocharged all-wheel-drive sedan transported us in comfort and security.

Impressively (given the extreme cold temperatures combined with about 25 km of city driving before hitting the highway), the Audi returned an excellent 7.3 l/100 km (38.7 Imp mpg), cruising at 120 kph.

Traffic was moderately heavy (negatively affecting fuel economy due to slowing for heavy traffic then having to accelerate up to our 120 kph cruising speed.)

Fuel consumption (highway):  7.3 l/100 km (38.7 Imp mpg)

Distance traveled:  307 km (including 25 km city driving)

Fuel used (Esso premium unleaded):  31.377 l

Ambient temperature:  -23.5 degrees Celsius

Highway cruising speed:  120 kph
