Flagstaff, Arizona. Trains, trains and more trains

Flagstaff, AZ

Flagstaff, AZ

We stopped at the visitor centre in Flagstaff, Arizona; it’s the old train station.

Inside, as we asked one of the young women staffing the info desk about eateries, a freight train rumbled past.

Various hotels and motels listed in the AAA/CAA tourist guide for Flagstaff have a notation, “Near railroad tracks”, so it’s obvious train noise is a possible concern when choosing overnight lodging.

Flagstaff is a small town (pop. 68,677) and located on Route 66.

As the train flew past the train station/visitor centre, I said casually, “You must get, what, a train coming past here every hour or so?”

The young woman replied, “We get 80 to 90 trains past here each day.”

If you’re a train lover, Flagstaff, Arizona is obviously a great place to see trains up close.
